Circular economy and recycling are fundamental elements of a sustainable economic system. Following the precautionary principle, it is imperative to develop and implement future technologies, product and infrastructure development prospectively. This is what research and education in the group of Circular Economy and Recycling Technology (CERT) stands for.
We identify, quantify, and characterize the product-related fate of resources, materials and substances in society and environment and we optimize circular technologies on an apparatus-, plant- and system-level.
The chair was established in 1975 under the name “solid waste management” and was since an integral part of the institute of environmental technology at the TU Berlin. The group was led by Prof. Karl-Joachim Thomé-Kozmiensky before Prof. Vera Susanne Rotter was appointed in 2003 as Junior-Professor and in 2005 as full professor. Until now the chair has grown continuously, counting currently some 20 staff members plus six scholars and visiting scientist.
