Description: This project intends to disseminate principles of green design and pollution prevention and to increase the environmental knowledge of students, university staff and engineers in China and India. Through the setting up of sandwich PhD programs, students from China and India will have access to the concepts, techniques and policies in Europe and will act as seeds to disseminate the knowledge in their countries. Actually two Chinese PhD-students are supervised for a 20-month and a 10-month period at the TU Berlin on the topics: Thermo-dynamical behavior of chlorine in combustion processes (sandwich program with Tianjin University), and Simulating the economic viability of construction and demolition waste recycling with system dynamics-the case of China (sandwich program with Chongqing University). Within that project in total 3 workshops were organized in China and India. Presentations of each partner (in total 4 European and 3 Asian Universities are involved) and local university staff, industries and policy makers build a basis for intense discussions and exchange on green design, pollution prevention and waste management. Additionally, 3-week training course for Asian university staff members, local governmental officers and designers on "Material Cycles" was jointly organized by the four European partners and held in Leiden and Delft (The Netherlands) and Berlin (Germany) in May 2007. For that training course a 4-day module on "Quality assurance in waste management" was organized by the TUB. The training aimed at teaching practical techniques of
