SHORT CURRICULUM VITAE

Lupe

OLIVER LARSEN holds a diploma degree as an engineer for environmental science and technology. He finished his study program at the Technische Universität Berlin with the focus on waste management. His diploma thesis covers the formation of diffusive greenhouse gas emission from soils due to the recycling of production residues on a palm oil plantation in Sumatra, Indonesia.

Since 2012 he works as a research and teaching assistant at the Chair of Waste Management (since 2016: Chair of Circular Economy and Recycling Technology), Institute of Environmental Science and Technology, Technische Universität Berlin. His main areas of activity are the scientific supervision of project, Bachelor, and Master theses and the provision of lectures and seminars within the scope of the study program Environmental Science and Technology. Furthermore, he teaches in in the international Master program Urban Management and in the context of short and online courses at the UNESCO IHE Water Institute in Delft, the Netherlands. His key subjects are the separation and collection of waste, the treatment of organic wastes in composting and biogas plants, as well as the disposal of municipal solid waste on landfills, among others.

In 2016, he started to investigate the recovery of rice straw in the BioRist project in the Mekong delta in South Vietnam. Main goals of the project are the development of an innovative fermentation process to generate biogas and the reduction of greenhouse gas emission from cultivation of rice.

In course of his PhD Oliver Larsen examines the formation, quantification, and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions from composting processes. He also scrutinizes the influence of compostable plastic bags on composting processes and the consequences of application of compost on agricultural soils within the context of climate change.
